Did you know that 3E Online Chemical Approval allows users to approve products as they are added to a location’s inventory?

The flexibility of 3E’s Chemical Approval Module allows multiple Chemical Approval Managers for each location. To keep track of who approved a product, utilize the Approval Notes Feature within 3E Online. Upon approval of a product, simply enter your name in the notes section and select submit. Not only will the requestor know who approved the product, but so will your fellow Chemical Approval Managers.

Product enhancements provide improved, advanced and sophisticated features to 3E’s current products and services.  Below are a few enhancements that were recently released within 3E Online:

  • Additional search features have been added to the 3E Online program that will allow users to search by and view custom values and product identifiers. This will enable those users who depend heavily on these fields to select their desired search results and view these within 3E Online.
  • 3E has added the ability to search by CAS RN within the “Build Inventory” page, under the Inventory Tab, of 3E Online. Users can now locate products in the catalog by CAS RN when modifying inventories.

The April issue of Adhesives and Sealants Magazine included an article by 3E founder Jess Kraus on the importance of properly maintaining an accurate inventory of hazardous materials.  The full article can be viewed here.

Jytte Syska, vice president of international operations and REACH expert, was recently interviewed by Chemical Week for an article in the April 19 issue discussing REACH and the various emerging services that are being created to address the upcoming, complex requirements.  Chemical Week turned to Jytte as an expert source because of her growing reputation in the industry as an authoritative voice on the subject.  During the interview, Jytte spoke about the challenges of data collection, documentation, and substance identification under REACH.  You can view the full article here.

"Have there been any recent changes to Canada's Domestic Substances List (DSL)?"

On November 11, 2006, the Canadian Minister of the Environment published a notice of intent to delete 1105 substances from the Domestic Substances List (DSL).  As a result of an audit, these substances were discovered not to have met the criteria prescribed in subsection 66(1) of CEPA 1999, which reads as follows:

66. (1) The Minister shall, for the purposes of sections 73, 74 and 81, maintain a list to be known as the Domestic Substances List, and the List shall specify all substances that the Minister is satisfied were, between January 1, 1984 and December 31, 1986,
(a) manufactured in or imported into Canada by any person in a quantity of not less than 100 kg in any one calendar year; or
(b) in Canadian commerce or used for commercial manufacturing purposes in Canada.

Interested parties may provide comment within 180 days of November 11, 2006.  During the comment period, anyone who objects to the deletion of a substance should provide, using Part A of the form “Substances Specified on the Domestic Substances List,” the information and substantiating documentation to prove that the substance proposed for deletion meets the criteria prescribed in subsection 66(1).

For substances for which the above substantiation cannot be made but which are known to be currently in Canadian commerce or used for commercial manufacturing purposes in Canada, interested parties should provide the following substantiating information using Part B of the form:

  • An indication that the substance is manufactured in or imported into Canada in quantities greater than 100 kg, 1000 kg, 10000 kg or 50000 kg annually; and
  • the nature of the substance’s uses.

The Minister of the Environment will consider adding to the Non-Domestic Substances List (NDSL) any deleted substances from the DSL at the same time as these deletions take place.

Comments should cite the Canada Gazette Part I of November 11, 2006 and should be addressed to:

Bernard Madé, Director
New Substances Division,
Environment Canada
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0H3
CANADA

Comments may also be provided via fax at 819-953-7155, or by email at nsn-infoline@ec.gc.ca.  Any person who provides information in response to the notice may submit, with the information, a written request that this information be treated as confidential.

Ariel/3E has added a temporary new list to its WebInsight Global Inventories module to cover the 1105 substances proposed for deletion from the DSL.  This list will be removed from WebInsight when the deletions are finalized and the entries are removed from the DSL.
