Ask the 3Experts..................................................................................................... When is the next cut-off date for
notifications to the Chinese Inventory?
China adds new
chemicals to its Inventory of Existing Chemical Substances in China
(IECSC) by publishing supplements from time to time. Each supplement
has a cut-off date when new substances must have been in use in
China to be included. CRC-SEPA recently issued the Fifth Supplement
to the IECSC. The cut-off date for notification for the Fifth
Supplement was December 31, 2004. CRC-SEPA has not yet announced the
cut-off date for the Sixth Supplement.

How
to get the most out of 3E Online®-MSDS
TIP
#1: If you
experience difficulty viewing MSDS information within the 3E
Online-MSDS program, please try the following:
Check to see if
you are able to view MSDS (PDF) documents within 3E Online on
another computer in your building. If you are able to view
PDFs on another computer, check and verify what version you are
using. All online programs require Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or
higher. If you are using 3.0 or lower you will want to uninstall and
then reinstall a newer version of Acrobat Reader. There is a link to
Adobe for this install in the lower right hand corner of each 3E
Online screen. You will then need to restart your computer and
relogin to 3E Online by going to http://www.getmsds.com/
If you are unable to view PDFs on another computer you may
want to try to view a PDF document on another site. You can try the
following link to verify this information: http://www.adobe.com/enterprise/pdfs/forrester_crossingdivide.pdf If
you are unable to view PDFs online you will want to contact your
internal IT department to let them know that you are having
difficulty viewing PDF documentation online.
TIP
#2: Below is information on how to respond to 3E regarding an
inventory item that requires additional information.
1.) Log in to http://www.getmsds.com/ 2.)
Choose Inventory Manager within the 3E Online tool bar. 3.)
Select Customer Action then select "Need more Product Info." 4.)
Select the product or products you wish to respond to by clicking on
the box to the left of the product name. 5.) Respond to those
selected items by filling in the information requested in the
"Customer Response" box.
Once submitted,
3E will then be able to work on that inventory item and match the
corrected MSDS. You can also view this information in report
format by clicking on View Report in the Need More Product
Information screen.
If you do not
have Inventory Manager permissions, please contact your facility's
Inventory Manager or EHS contact. Please feel free to contact us
with any additional questions or concerns. You can always reach a
Customer Support Technician
24-7-365.

Attention
Ariel Data Manager/Staging Area for SAP
Customers!
Need a
way to efficiently track regulatory changes in SAP
EH&S?
Introducing
Ariel Data Integration Productivity Pack
(DIPP): provides visibility into the impact of
regulatory changes on your business and facilitates the
adoption of regulatory changes
including:
- Impact Analysis for Regulatory
Changes - summarizes the number of
specification records impacted by change, the number
of records impacted by direct hits and those involving
generics, and yields insight into the amount of effort
required to adopt a set of regulatory changes.
It also identifies what and how specific records
have been impacted.
- Impact Analysis
for Phrase Changes - identifies phrases
containing a specific string of characters, phrases
required to support a specific country or region and
phrases impacted by change over a specified time
frame.
- Maintenance of
Filters - a utility is provided with DIPP
which enables the settings to be exported to a file,
settings changed, and settings imported to the
registry. The flexibility introduced by the
ability to maintain multiple filters supports the
rapid adoption of regulatory changes.
- Creation of SAP
Hit Lists - the specification record keys
identified in the impact analysis for regulatory
changes may be exported to MS EXCEL and imported into
SAP EH&S as hit lists. Insight gained into
what has changed and the ability to support multiple
filters enables the Autoload feature of ADM/Staging
Area for SAP, significantly reducing the amount
of time required to process regulatory
changes.

From NSC Membership News
Publication Targets
Effects of Dry Cleaning Chemicals - OSHA is offering a new
publication aimed at mitigating the effects of the chemical
perchloroethylene on workers in the dry cleaning industry. "Reducing Worker
Exposures to Perchloroethylene in Dry Cleaning" outlines the
risks associated with exposure to the chemical. Perchloroethylene is
a volatile organic chemical that can cause serious health hazards,
OSHA said. Dry cleaning workers who routinely breathe the solvent's
vapors or spill it on their skin are at risk of developing adverse
health problems, including skin, liver, and kidney damage - and
possibly cancer.
FDA
investigating safety of chemicals used in cosmetics -
The Food and Drug
Administration is investigating whether the chemicals used in
personal care products are health hazards.
The agency has
been studying phthalates, a group of chemicals used in shampoo, hair
spray, deodorant, skin cream, body wash and other products. Studies
have shown the chemicals could harm reproductive organs or cause
other health concerns. Of the 48 cosmetics surveyed, the FDA found
most contained at least one phthalate.

Occupational Hazards
OSHA Beryllium Test Results Higher Than
Some Anticipated - Ten current OSHA inspectors --
3.7 percent of those tested so far -- have developed a sensitization
to beryllium, a widely used, toxic metal that can cause lung and
skin disease.
OSHA, which began offering voluntary beryllium testing for its
workers in 2004, says that 271 inspectors had been tested as of
March 15. According to the agency, 31 employees who initially
expressed interest in being tested for beryllium sensitization had
yet to schedule appointments as of that date.
For those inspectors who tested positive, OSHA's Office of
Occupational Medicine provided them with "in-depth counseling" on
further medical evaluation and other issues such as workers'
compensation rights and procedures, according to the agency. The
agency says those who were tested were informed of their individual
results as soon as they were received. Read the full story here.
