Ask the 3Expert...................................................................................................................... "What is happening with China GHS?" In 2006, China issued 26 GHS Standards providing rules for classification, precautionary labeling and precautionary statements of chemicals (for explosives, flammable gases, oxidizing liquids, carcinogenicity, hazardous to the aquatic environment, etc.). However, the legal implementation of these standards is yet to be determined by the new Chinese GHS Regulation which is expected to be issued later this year. Until then, the existing safety data sheet (SDS) and classification and labeling requirements in China are still being used. The new GHS Regulation will describe how the GHS standards should be used, and will have a two-year transitional period effective from its publication date.
